Karen began painting when she moved to Dallas, Texas in 1990. She attended Tarrant County College and the University of Texas, Arlington, where she studied Theater Arts - Production. Karen builds her own canvasses and works with Acrylic and Latex paints. Her paintings are abstract, full of color, and inspired by nature.

Karen stopped working as a commercial artist rep in December 2001, at age 32, to pursue her painting career full-time. She was invited to exhibit in her first group show at Mockingbird Station in December 2002. She is a member of Texas Visual Arts Association and the Visual Arts Coalition of Dallas.
